New Delhi, Sept 11: The Union Cabinet today approved in principle the setting up of a games village at a estimated cost of Rs. 186 crore for hosting Commonwealth Games in 2010 and also agreed to enter into a host city contract with the games federation.
The Cabinet, which took up the CGF bid evaluation commission's queries to the government on various issues, also approved underwriting any shortfall between revenue and expenditure of the organising committee.
It approved in principle meeting the cost of construction of the indoor and outdoor stadium in the Yamuna Sports Complex and that of upgradation of the existing infrastructure of the DDA which is estimated at Rs 32.50 crore, an official spokesman said.
While approving in principle the proposal of Delhi Lt Governor to set up the games village at a preliminary estimated cost of Rs. 186 crore the cabinet agreed to hand over the hostel type accommodation to the University of Delhi after the games are over.
