VHP activists protest in Varanasi, 800 arrested
Varanasi, Oct 16: VHP members today detained two trains for over three hours, blocked roads and staged a dharna here to protest alleged manhandling of a senior leader even as police arrested 800 activists of the saffron outfit proceeding to Ayodhya for tomorrow`s meet.

Alleging that a senior member of Dharam Sansad Swami Ram
Kamal Das was manhandled by authorities who prevented him from
boarding the Ayodhya bound Dehradun express for the 'Sankalp
meet', VHP activists detained the train and the Bundelkhand
Express for nearly three hours.
They also blocked traffic on the g t road outside the
Railaway station and staged a dharna.
VHP alleged Das was roughed up by police at the railway station when he tried to board the train.
They burnt an effigy of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav alleging repressive measures were being taken against the Ram bhakts.
Meanwhile, over 800 VHP activists from southern states were arrested here while proceeding to Ayodhya for the VHP programme, sources added.
