Ayodhya, Oct 16: With the crackdown on VHP activists continuing and administration sealing the venue of the proposed "sankalp meet" here tomorrow, the saffron outfit today said it was planning to change the place and timing of the programme and catch the administration unawares. VHP international president Ashok Singhal would participate in the meet and was in the temple town supervising preparations for the programme, senior leader Ram Vilas Vedanti, who has gone underground to avoid arrest, said from an undisclosed destination which he said was in the town.
"The venue and timing of the sankalp meeting could be changed in view of the crackdown by the district administration," he said but did not disclose the new venue.
The administration last night pulled down the massive pandal erected at the sprawling Ramsevakpuram, venue of the proposed meet, sealed the complex and stationed PAC jawans. All approach roads to the venue were sealed and no one was allowed past the several security barriers. Vedanti said the VHP's programme "stands" and claimed thousand of Ram bhakts had already reached Ayodhya to participate in the meet.
VHP sources said the nature of the programme could also be changed keeping in view the crackdown.
After taking pledge for temple construction, the Ram bhakts would court arrest, VHP sources said adding that no final decision had yet been taken. Tomorrow's programme could be "symbolic" and continue till October 30.
It may be recalled that VHP had at the last moment changed the venue of its 'shila daan' programme in March this year from the disputed site to the Digambar Akhara, the ashram of former Ram Janmabhoomi Trust president Mahant Ram Chandra Das Paramhans. Bureau Report
