New Delhi, Apr 28: The Delhi High Court has admitted a petition seeking removal of illegal advertisements on Capital's roads which has come under the CBI scanner. A bench comprising Chief Justice B C Patel and Justice A K Sikri directed the Delhi government to file reply within three weeks.
Earlier on court's direction, CBI had registered a case on a petition that contracts for these were awarded to a private party without following prescribed procedure and a status report on the same is awaited.
The petition, filed by politician Jagdish Anand, had alleged the private company was illegally permitted in 1998 to advertise on tree guards, electric poles and other places along roadside.

The petitioner's counsel A K Singh and Sanjay Kumar Singh had alleged that the MoU between the Delhi government and the private company was executed without inviting any tender and issuing press notice.

The counsel had submitted that the contract was given free of charge.
Alleging that by the contract the state exchequer has suffered a loss of crores of rupees, the petitioner had said the installation of hoardings was against the notification which prohibits erection or display of advertisements on roads.
