Jodhpur, Sept 27: Rail traffic between Luni junction and Samdari junction stations would be suspended from October 7 for gauge conversion, it was officially announced here today. The Lini-Samdari section of the northern railway is part of the Rs 283 crore gauge conversion project for converting the railway track from meter gauge to broad gauge between Luni junction and Munabao, the last railway post on the Indo-Pakistan border in Barmer district, divisional railway manager Gurdeep Singh told reporters. The defence ministry is contributing rs 232 crore for the entire gauge conversion project, Singh said.
The work of gauge conversion of 51 km track between Luni and Samdari will take 45 days, he said. The movement of trains between Samdari and Munabao and Samdari and Palanpur would continue with some alterations during the closure of traffic between Luni and Samdari, he added.
