New Delhi, Dec 27: Muslim community should aim for overall progress by imbibing a spirit of nationalism and wider participation in nation building instead of being too dependent and conscious about reservations and concessions, BJP general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said today. "Muslims cannot progress entirely on the basis of reservations. Instead of being too dependent and conscious about reservations and concessions, overall progress of the community is possible only if you imbibe a spirit of nationalism,” Naqvi said addressing a minorities convention.

Responding to demands for greater representation and reservations for economically backward Muslims at the meet, Naqvi said it was "high time" the community stopped solely relying on the government for providing jobs.

"You should begin seeking employment in ever-expanding private sphere and thereby involving yourselves in nation building in a big way", he told the community members.

Attacking the "so-called secular parties" which had branded the BJP communal, Naqvi said the party had silenced them by winning assembly elections in three states solely on the basis of developmental issues.
Asserting that the NDA was committed to social and economic uplift of the minorities, minister of state for social justice Nagmani claimed the "government has accomplished in the last five years, much more than what the Congress and others could for the welfare of the minorities".
