Kolkata, June 03: Ace striker Baichung Bhutia today signed for soccer giant East Bengal, promising to put up a better display in the coming season after an injury-prompted indifferent performance in 2002-2003.
"I am now fully fit. I hope to play like I played in the past this season, if not better," Bhutia told newspersons here after signing the inter-club transfers.
The nimble-footed striker had a dismal last season with East Bengal's arch-rivals Mohun Bagan after becoming the first Indian player to play in the English Professional League during his three-year stint with Bury FC.
He said that East Bengal's coming outing in the Asean Cup afforded a "great opportunity" to the players to give a good account of themselves in the international area.
"If we play well, India's reputation in the Asian level will also get a boost," he said.
