Barbados, June 09: Sri Lanka pulled off a remarkable four-wicket victory as they successfully chased the massive West Indies' total of 312-4. After Brian Lara's thrilling century had guided the hosts to an imposing 312-4 - a record total in Barbados - the Windies looked strong favourites, but the Sri Lankans refused to be bowed and smashed 315 runs for the loss of six wickets. All the Lankan top-order batsmen chipped in, leaving the middle-order batsmen to get 92 runs off the last 10 overs. Upul Chandana then took charge and he cracked 89 off 71 deliveries to usher Sri Lanka to within sight of a stunning victory. He fell with 20 still needed and despite Mahela Jayawardene also holing out the visitors kept their nerve and got home with three balls and four wickets to spare.
The West Indies had looked in a strong position after captain Lara scored his 17th ODI ton off just 95 balls before he was finally out for 116. Bureau Report
