Mumbai, June 19: Putting an end to all speculation about the timing of the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP today decided that the elections would be on time in November-December, even as Deputy PM Advani was extravagant in his praise for Vajpayee on the latter's peace initiative that has won global acclaim.
BJP sources said that elections in November-December would be profitable for the party. Party leaders also dwelt at length on the party's relations with its allies in NDA in different states and deliberated over the preparedness for achieving success in the Mission-2004. A day after Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee lavished praise on L K Advani describing the Deputy Prime Minister as "a source of strength", the latter said today the peace initiative of Vajpayee had won global acclaim. As the BJP leaders deliberated on strategies to win the 2004 Lok Sabha elections during a brain-storming conclave, Advani briefed them on his deliberations in US and UK and said the peace initiative had received global acclaim.
"It has once again convinced the international community of Atalji's sincere efforts to establish peace and normal relations with Pakistan and to resolve all bilateral issues with our neighbour through dialogue", he said.
Other participants who complimented Vajpayee on the peace initiative, appreciated the success in the government's drive against cross-border terrorism and said that the drive should be further intensified.
The leaders reviewed NDA government's major development initiatives, which influence the masses, and considered ways in which they could be implemented speedily and more effectively.
Some new initiatives for the benefit of poor, farmers, unemployed youths and backward regions were also discussed, party sources said.
The Prime Minister, who was scheduled to leave for Delhi today in view of his visit to China on June 22, planted a sapling at the venue yesterday. Another sapling was planted by Advani today.
