New Delhi, July 30: As the party accused the Centre of "destabilising" its government in Arunachal Pradesh, a high-level congress delegation today met Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said the developments were due to "subversion" by an insurgent group with whom New Delhi was holding peace talks. "What is happening in Arunachal Pradesh is not a simple process of people changing political loyalties, but a deliberate effort on the part of an insurgent group, with whom the Centre was holding peace talks, to terrorise the legislators", the delegation led by leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha Manmohan Singh told Vajpayee. Singh later said it was the duty of the Centre to ensure that the insurgent groups did not indulge in such type of activities, especially when the main opposition party had time and again expressed its apprehensions in this regard.
The delegation told the Prime Minister that it would be a sad day for democracy if political complexion of duly elected governments in the north-east was changed to strengthen peace process. Bureau Report
