Srinagar, May 26: Seven persons, including four Army personnel and two Lashker-e-Toiba militants, were killed in various militancy-related incidents in Kupwara and Baramulla districts of Jammu and Kashmir since last night, official sources said today. Four Army personnel, including Major A K Tripathi, were killed when militants opened fire on a search party of Rashtriya Rifles at village Nilipora-Magam in Handwar area of frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir last night, the sources said.
The troops were ambushed when they raided the village to carry out searches following specific information about the presence of militants, the sources said. The armymen fired back but there was no immediate report of any casualty on the militant side, the sources said adding Army reinforcements have been rushed to the village and a massive operation has been launched to track down the militants.
Meanwhile, two Pakistani militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed when they ran into an Army ambush after targeting the residence of former MLA Mohammad Yousuf Parray alias Kukka Parray at Hajan in Baramulla district of north Kashmir last night, the sources said.
