Mumbai, July 10 A Social Security Card would be issued to all subscribers of Employees Provident Fund (EPF), which would help facilitate quick disposal of provident fund claims of employees, Union minister of state for labour Ashok Pradhan said today.

The Central Board of Trustees of EPF had also taken other decisions including introduction of multi-benefit insurance scheme, revising the threshold limit of employees from 20 to 10 and introduction of business process re-engineering in the Empoyment Provident Fund organisation, Pradhan told reporters here. With the new schemes, the accounting system in EPFO office would be modernised and fully computerised leading to quick disposal of claims within a period of two to three days instead of 30 days.

The schemes would involve expenditure of nearly Rs 100 crore all over India and would be completed within a period of two and half years, he said Earlier, Pradhan paid a surprise visit to ESIC hospital at Andheri in north-west Mumbai and interacted with the hospital staff.

The minister, who was apparently unhappy with the state of affairs at the hospital, directed the medical superintendent to take immediate remedial measures after sanctioning Rs nine crore for its modernisation. The minister also paid a visit to the regional office of Employees' Provident Fund Organisation at Bandra.
