Kancheepuram, Aug 02: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today met the Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswathi here and discussed various issues, including works relating to temples in Ambaji, Ahmedabad and Somnathpur. After the meeting, which lasted for about one hour, Modi told reporters that his visit was intended to pay respects to the seer, whose 'Swarna Jayanthi' celebrations were going on. The Seer said Modi's visit had nothing to do with Ayodhya and they discussed several issues relating to the Kanchi Mutt. Modi said he had invited Jayendra Saraswati to Gujarat and appealed to the seer to start Centres in tribal areas in his state. The Kanchi Seer said his acquaintance with Modi went back to more than 30 years and had known the Chief Minister since the times he was a Swayam Sevak.

Due to the heavy pilgrim inflow to Rameswaram, a proposal was also put to Modi to build a Yatri Nivas there, the Seer said.
