Uttar Pradesh is on top of the hit list of terrorists and the state government has taken all necessary measures to foil any attack, UP Director General of Police R K Pandit said. Security has been heightened in Aligarh, Mau, Azamgarh, Agra, Moradabad and Rampur districts in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on Parliament, he told reporters.
Stating up is on top of the hit list of various terrorist outfits, the DGP said the country needed a POTO-type law to combat terrorism.
To a question on militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad's threats to carry out attacks, he said the state government is prepared to meet any eventuality.
On the situation along the Indo-Nepal border, Pandit said one battalion of para-military forces had already been posted there. Referring to naxalite problems in three districts of Sonebhadra, Mirzapur and Chandauli, he said, 18 new police stations would be established in these districts by March next.
He said a special drive had been launched in the state from December 18 to nab criminals and anti-socials.
