UK, July 25: Jelena Dokic recovered from a terrible start to demolish Conchita Martinez in the second round of the Bank of the West Classic.
The fifth seeded Yugoslav won just one game in the first set, but hit back with 12 games out of 13 to claim the win, 6-1 0-6 6-1.
Dokic will face second seed Lindsay Davenport in the last eight.
The American was impressive in her first tournament match in nine months, beating Luxembourg's Anne Kremer 6-3 6-0.
Looking fit and light on her feet after knee surgery in January, Davenport said: "I've never been happier to be back on the court."
Less convincng was Monica Seles, who struggled to overcome Thailand's Tamarine Tansugarn 6-4 3-6 6-1.
The first round was completed when seventh seed Daja Bedanova of the Czech Republic beat Russia's Tatiana Panova 6-3 6-4.
Bedanova now takes on Yugoslav Jelena Jankovic - who swept past American Sarah Taylor 6-1 6-1 - for the right to meet Kim Clijsters.
