Goa governor Mohammed Fazal on Wednesday dissolved the state assembly on the advise of the Manohar Parrikar government. In a hurriedly convened press conference in Panaji on Wednesday, the chief minister said that the decision to dissolve the house and seek fresh mandate was taken two months back in consultation with the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He denied any threat to his 16-month-old government. Mr Parrikar had sent a resolution in this regard to the governor, after holding an emergency meeting of his Council of Ministers on Wednesday morning. The governor is order to dissolve the 13th assembly was issued later in afternoon.
Parrikar said that the decision to recommend the dissolution was taken unanimously by the cabinet. ''Barring, the minister for sports, Sanjay Bandekag, all 13 cabinet members were present.'' Mr Bandekar is out of the station to attend the national sports meeting, he said.
