Ahmedabad, June 24: With a view to popularise saree as a fashion garment, a Mumbai-based designer will hold a fashion show to project the draping of the six-yard material in 50 different ways. Addressing mediapersons here today, designer Shaina N C said her intention was to revive the saree as a "fashion statement" for women of all age groups and also remove myths and inhibitions regarding wearing a saree among youngsters. Shaina, who manages 'Golden Thimble', the Mumbai-based boutique established almost 35 years ago by her mother Munira Chudasma, said she would be showing only 17 different ways to drape sarees during her fashion show here tomorrow, which would be followed by a three-day sale. Nearly, 25 per cent of proceedings of the sale would go to cancer patients aid association, which she says is one of the best ways to combine glamour with a good cause.
The 29-year-old designer, who can drape a saree and even two in the most unexpected manner, said it was high time to stop aping the west when it comes to outfits since Indian garments itself have so much depth and variety.
