New Delhi, Oct 01: Asserting that Indian Air Force was geared to sustaining prolonged operational deployment in the context of ongoing border stand off with Pakistan, Air Force chief S Krishnaswamy today said there was no question of sanctity on the issue of his force hitting targets on the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir, if need arises.
"There is no issue of sanctity on the use of air power on and near the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir and this does not tantamount to any escalation", he told a press conference here.
The air chief did concede that at times there was a sensitivity to use of bigger fire-power near the LoC, but said that whenever and wherever air power was required it would be used after risk and other factors were taken into account.
Declaring that the IAF and army had achieved near synergy in operational planning even upto batallion level, the air chief said with the recent induction of state-of-art fighters and weapons systems, the air force had now acquired the capability of precision attacks from afar. This, he said, could see the force playing a greater role in counter insurgency and heli-borne anti-militancy operations.
