Ahmedabad, May 14: Two policemen chargesheeted in the Bilkis Bano gangrape and murder case in which 14 people were killed during post-Godhra riots, today surrendered before a court. With this all the 20 accused in the case have been remanded to judicial custody.
The two DSP rank officials identified as Ramsinh Babhor, and R S Bhagora, surrendered before in-charge chief judicial magistrate (Ahmedabad rural) R K Sargani, who remanded them to judicial custody till May 18.
Babhor was posted as circle inspector at Limkheda, while Bhagora was Dahod district DSP, are accused of "shoddy" investigation in the case.
The Gujarat High Court on May 7 had rejected the duo`s application seeking quashing of CBI proceedings against them and directed the accused to appear in court on May 14. The court had exempted them twice earlier.
CBI, which was handed over the investigations into the case by the Supreme Court, has arrested six policemen, including the two DSPs.
The two accused have been charged of entering into a criminal conspiracy with four other policemen to dispose of the bodies of seven riot victims by procuring 60 kg salt, to help speedier decomposition.
