Jerusalem, Oct 14: A Palestinian who was seen approaching the Jewish settlement of Negohot near Hebron in the West Bank overnight was shot dead by an Israeli soldier, a military source said today. The soldier had opened fire at a "suspicious shadow" which continued to approach the settlement even though warning shots had been fired, added the source.
A 30-year-old Jewish man and a baby girl were shot dead at the same settlement in an attack on September 26 claimed by the radical Palestinian movement Islamic Jihad.
Military radio said that no arms had been discovered near the body.
The latest death brings the total number of people killed since the start of the Palestinian Intifada in September 2000 to 3,537, including 2,632 Palestinians and 842 Israelis.
