Bogota, Oct 29: Montoya was a title contender this season, ending up third overall behind Ferrari's six-time champion Michael Schumacher and McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen. The 28-year-old said he was disappointed in this year's results. "The truth is the team threw both championships away: one by my mechanical failure-- the truth is nothing could have been done anyway," he said.
Rumours swept Formula One before the end of the season that the Colombian, one of the sport's swashbuckling showmen, was set to join McLaren in place of Briton David Coulthard. Montoya is still a favourite to join the Mercedes-powered team in 2005 although he has also been linked with Ferrari.
