Sonia behind Frank`s Indira: Maneka
Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, who on Thursday won a legal battle against the author and publisher of a biography of Indira Gandhi, accused her sister-in-law and Congress president Sonia Gandhi of being behind the writing of the book and said a lie has been nailed.
Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, who on Thursday won a legal battle against the author and publisher of a biography of Indira Gandhi, accused her sister-in-law and Congress president Sonia Gandhi of being behind the writing of the book and said a lie has been nailed.
"The author has thanked her (Sonia) for all the input," Maneka said when asked if the book had been written at Sonia`s behest. The writer Katherine Frank thanked Sonia Gandhi for providing documents, in her foreword to the book Indira - The life of Indira Nehru Gandhi.
Asked if her victory was a snub to the Congress president, Maneka said: "It is establishment of what is right."
Finally, we have been able to nail the lie. For years, I have been reading such an enormous amount of lies about the family and I did not react. Now I have decided that I will react to everything that is a lie," she said.
She said the motive of the book was to project "members of the family barring one as thieves, fools and murderers".
"She (Sonia) wanted to show her superiority by pulling other members of the family down. What else can the motive be," Maneka said.
However, the minister replied in the negative when asked if it was political gameplan and said, "A person who is hollow inside and does not have confidence to prove herself only does this... I am sad that a member of the family was behind getting this book written. Its a matter of concern." Bureau Report
