Lucknow, Aug 29: The BJP today welcomed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's decision to withdraw Pota cases slapped on jailed independent legislator
Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya and his father, saying it is a right decision taken at a right time.
"We welcome the decision. If president's rule had been imposed in the state, we would have urged Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri to withdraw Pota," state BJP chief Vinay Katiyar said here today.
Terming former Chief Minister Mayawati's decision to impose Pota on Raja Bhaiya and his family members as 'wrong', Katiyar said he had opposed the decision at the time. Katiyar said he would urge Yadav to order a probe as to why the act was imposed on Raja Bhaiya.
The BJP would play the role of a constructive opposition, he said adding, "We will not oppose the government for the sake of opposition. We will wait and see how it performs and then decide accordingly." The BJP hoped that Yadav would ensure immediate payment of cane dues to farmers as Centre has already released Rs 680 crore for cane growers, Katiyar said. Bureau Report
