Haldia (WB), Aug 10: Six persons have been arrested in connection with the firing in CPI (M) office in East Midnapur district which claimed one life and left seven injured even as the party today observed a 'protest day' against the attack. Police sources today said six persons have been arrested in connection with yesterday's attack on CPI (M) office in Bartola village by some 10-15 people who fired indiscriminately killing Asrukana Mondal, a party leader and lecturer of Khejuri College, on-the-spot and injured seven others.
The CPI (M) has asked all its activists and supporters to observe a 'protest day' all over the district to condemn the attack. Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress MLA Sisir Adhikari alleged that the police has arrested six innocent TC supporters who were returning after attending party supremo Mamata Banerjee's meeting in the district yesterday in connection with the case. Adhikari said his party had no links with the firing and alleged that it was a fallout of CPI (M)'s infighting. Bureau Report
