Kannur, June 21: Movement of several trains on the Cannanore-Mangalore section was severely disrupted following major landslips between Kasaragod and Kottikulam stations due to heavy rain that has been lashing the northern parts of Kerala for the last two days. Following the damage caused to tracks and water-logging in some areas, several long distance trains were running behind schedule, railway sources here said.

While the Mangalore-Chennai Mail was running five hours behind schedule, the Thiruvananthapuram-bound Malabar Express would leave Mangalore at 2050 hours, about three hours late, the sources said. The Mangalore bound Parasuram Express has been terminated at Kottikulam while the Tiruchi-Mangalore Link Express was stationed at Charvattur, they said, adding the Mangalore-Cannanore passenger has been cancelled for the day.

Meanwhile, efforts are on to restore traffic on the damaged tracks.

Earlier, frequent landslips near the newly-laid track as part of the doubling works had led to slow movement of trains passing through the area, the sources said. Bureau Report
