New Delhi, Dec 04: BJP appeared headed for a landslide victory in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan wresting power from congress which is locked in a neck-and-neck fight in Chhattisgarh while retaining Delhi.

  • Riding an anti-incumbency wave, BJP looked like securing a two-thirds majority in 230-member Madhya Pradesh Assembly which chief minister Digvijay Singh admitted was a "wave against" the party and the government.

    BJP was leading in 146 seats, congress in 51 and others in 24. Among the winners in Madhya Pradesh were BJP's Himmat Kothari (Ratlam Town) and Vijay Shah (Harsud) and Congress' Premchand Guddu (Alot) and Prabhudayal Gehlot (Sailana).

    In an impressive performance in Rajasthan, the Saffron Party was way ahead with a lead in 116 of the 200 seats against Congress' 60. Others led in 21 constituencies.

    Congress is all set to retain power in the National Capital Delhi where the party is leading way ahead of BJP. Out of the 14 results declared so far congress has bagged 11 and BJP three in the 70-member house. Chief Minister Shiela Dixit and BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana were among the prominent winners.
