Seoul, Sept 21: Politicians from North and South Korea have agreed "in principle" to resume inter-Korean parliamentary talks at the earliest possible date following 12 years of hiatus, media pool reports said on Saturday. The agreement came after an eight-member South Korean delegation led by Vice National Assembly Speaker Kim Tai-Shik met with Kim Yong-Nam, president of the Presidium of the North's parliament, the Supreme People's Assembly.

It added to the momentum for inter-Korean reconciliation after the two Koreas agreed last month to resume dialogue for the first time in 20 months.

"I agree in principle to resume the South-North parliamentary talks," Kim Yong-Nam said in response to a proposal from the South Koreans.
He then suggested both sides discuss details before the South Korean lawmakers return home on Sunday.
