Muzaffarnagar (UP), Nov 15: Thousands of Bhartiya Kisan Union activists have been directed to proceed to Lucknow tomorrow to take part in the proposed farmers' council on Sunday to protest the alleged anti-farmers policies of Uttar Pradesh government, BKU president Mahendra Singh Tikait said today. BKU activists have been asked to reach the state capital for the 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' and also prepare for a "final battle" against the "anti-farmer" government, he told reporters here.

Last month, the government had banned a similar 'Mahapanchayat' of the BKU and arrested Tikait and several other activists from all over the state. Meanwhile, BKU activists staged a dharna and burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Mayawati to protest the sugar cane policy of the government.
