Is it the curse of the “hand” (party symbol) that is destroying so many promising lives in the Congress party? Yes, if a Kanpur-based astrologer and palmist, Rakesh Chandra Misra “Om” is to be believed. According to Mr Misra, it is the manner in which lines have been depicted in the hand, which is the Congress symbol, that is proving to be a curse for top-ranking leaders, as well as the party.
“In 1978, the Congress chose the ‘hand’ as its symbol and ever since the party has been plagued by unforeseen tragedies and misfortune. This is primarily because the lines shown on the palm of the hand in the Congress symbol are fatally arranged. The lifeline on the palm is extremely short which explains why emerging leaders in the age group of 50 to 58 years are dying in unnatural circumstances while the party is also losing its political strength over the years. In 1980, the party lost its most promising leader, Sanjay Gandhi, in an air crash. Then in 1984, Indira Gandhi met a bloody end and in 1991, it was the turn of Rajiv Gandhi who was killed by a human bomb. The Congress ever since has been on the wane in Uttar Pradesh — a state from where it drew its maximum strength earlier,” explains Mr Misra.
It was this, according to Mr Misra that was responsible for the deaths of Rajesh Pilot, Jitendra Prasada and now Madhavrao Scindia.
“All these three leaders were in the age group of 50 to 58 and were playing key roles in reviving the party. All of them died in unnatural circumstances when one least expected it. Pilot and Scindia were killed in accidents and Prasada died due to a disease (brain haemorrhage), symptoms of which he had never shown before.” According to this astrologer and palmist, another major defect in the Congress symbol is that the sun line has not been drawn which explains why the party has not yet been able to regain its lost glory.
“It is the sun line, which brings yash or prestige, and in the absence of this line on the party symbol, the Congress has not had a smooth going in the past years,” he says. Similarly, the fate line has not been drawn on the “hand” which means that the party’s life is not linked to its destiny.
In short, the fate of the Congress is conspicuous by its absence. “People are angry with the BJP, they praise the Congress rule but yet they do not vote the party back to power. Mrs Sonia Gandhi was supposed to be the trump card of the Congress but she has not been able to revive the party either,” he says.
