London, Sept 18: Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle has been charged with improper conduct by England's Football Association. Hoddle criticized referee Rob Styles following Tottenham's 1-0 loss to Birmingham on Aug. 16, the opening day of the premier league season.
Styles awarded a controversial penalty to Birmingham, which was converted.
"I've got nothing against him as a referee, but he made some poor decisions and it sticks in the throat," Hoddle said following the game.
Also yesterday, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said he would contest two FA misconduct charges. Ferguson lost his temper against Newcastle on Aug. 23 when United winger Ryan Giggs appeared to be hauled down in the first half. Referee Uriah Rennie didn't award a free kick.
Television replays appeared to show Ferguson using abusive language toward fourth official Jeff Winter after he was banned from the touchline.
