A video footage of the 'brutal' assaults on DMK rallyists on August 12 would be sent to the Union government as proof that the attacks had been carried out by goondas in connivance with police personnel, DMK president M Karunanidhi said on Friday. Showing a video clipping to reporters at the DMK headquarters in Chennai, he said the scenes in it only strengthened his argument that it was the police and some AIADMK goondas who had launched the attack on an otherwise peaceful rally.
"Police and AIADMK goondas have done this act in a planned manner. You can see from the scenes that they are not only standing together, but also talking to each other. You can also see scenes where police themselves attack a bus, which brought in volunteers to the rally from Coimbatore," he said. Besides sending a copy to the union government, a clipping would be sent to Justice K S Bakthavatsalam commission of inquiry, set up to probe into the violence during the rally.

Union Industry Minister Murasoli Maran was among those who watched the video footage.
