Parbhani (Maharashtra), Nov 26: Over 5,000 Muslims today offered Namaz at the main Idgah ground here as the authorities relaxed curfew in the communal trouble-torn areas to enable people to participate in mass prayers and Id-ul-Fitr celebrations. Scores of devotees gathered at the ground early morning to offer prayers even as police personnel along with companies of state reserve police force maintained constant vigil in these sensitive areas of Parbhani.
Describing the situation as "peaceful and under control," District Collector Madhukar Chaudhary said "curfew has been relaxed from five am today to enable people to visit mosques and offer Namaz and it would be relaxed throughout the day to enable devotees to participate in the Id celebrations."
"There has been no untoward incident so far for the past two days. But additional forces are posted throughout the sensitive areas as a precautionary measure to monitor the situation," he said.
Earlier in the day, the district officials, including Chaudhary, toured all the sensitive areas to ensure smooth conduct of prayers and festivities in local mosques.
Nearly 35 persons were injured when two motor-borne youth had hurled a bomb at a mosque during prayers on November 21.
