Chennai, Jan 06: In a sudden and surprise move, Tamil
Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today brought back R
Rajagopalan as Director General of Police less than two years
after she shunted him from that post.
The wheel came full circle for Rajagopalan, who replaces
B O Nailwal, whose new assignment was not known immediately.
In fact, Nailwal was in the midst of a seminar on human rights
when he was informed about the change.
Rajagopalan took charge of the new assignment immediately.
Rajagopalan, who was appointed DGP by the previous DMK government in October 2000, got the sack soon after Jayalalithaa took over in may next year.
He was sent as DGP (training) and had to cool heels for some time even to be relieved when he got a posting as the director general of the elite national security guards at the Centre.
In less than three years, Jayalalithaa has replaced the chief secretary and DGP three times each. Bureau Report
