Paris, Oct 23: Ivory Coast international Aruna Dindane handed Anderlecht a lifeline after scoring the only goal in a hard-fought 1-0 win over Group A rivals Celtic.
Dindane tapped in a Christian Wilhelmsson pass in the 72nd minute after the Belgian league leaders had fought most of the match a man down following the sending-off of captain Glen de Boeck.
The result, coupled with Lyon's 1-1 home draw with Bayern Munich, means that Anderlecht now move up to third in the group.
Celtic striker John Hartson had the ball in the net in the first half but his effort was ruled out for offside.
Celtic manager Martin O'neill admitted his side were below par. "We didn't play well enough," he said. "We had some decent chances without playing well in the game. You can't keep affording to do that."
