Tiruchirapalli, Nov 24: Communist Party of India would have tie-ups with like-minded parties in the forthcoming assembly elections in Gujarat, in order to prevent split of opposition votes, according to the party's secretary D Rajan.
Talking to reporters here, Rajan said that the CPI would contest the Jamnagar seat and asserted that there was no wavering among the leftists in fighting communal forces. Speaking at the press conference, R Nallakannu, secretary of the party's Tamil Nadu unit, charged the BJP with being "politically dishonest". He also said that the Governor should not give assent to the recent Tamil Nadu anti-conversion bill, which was an attempt to divide the people of the state and would serve no purpose other than generating fear among the dalits and the minorities.

CPI would be organising awareness conferences all over Tamil Nadu soon, he said adding, in fact, already such meetings were held at Tiruppur and Chennai and two more were planned at Tiruchirapalli and Tirunelveli.

Both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu governments should work together to secure the safe release of Nagappa, Nallakannu said.
The party would organise district-wise meetings in January 2003 to promote communal harmony and tell people about the "evils of privatisation", he added.
