London, Oct 06: A commercial pilot accepted libel damages today from a newspaper that claimed he was one of the conspirators behind the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in the United States. Associated Newspapers, owners of the Tabloid Mail yesterday, apologised and agreed at the High Court in London to pay damages and the legal costs of Lotfi Raissi, a 29-year-old Algerian Muslim. The amount of damages was not disclosed. Raissi had sued associated newspapers for libel over a September 2001 story in the Mail that was published while he was in custody in Britain awaiting the outcome of a US extradition application.
