Bhubaneswar, May 27: Titilagarh in Balangir district today reeled under 48.6 degrees C ---a rise of four degrees celsius since yesterday--- as the summer heat turned intense in western Orissa. This is the highest temperature recorded anywhere in the state this summer, official reports said.

Bhawanipatna, the district headquarter town of Kalahandi district, recorded a blistering 47 degrees C during the day.

Sambalpur recorded 45.2 degrees C while Sundargarh and Jharsuguda reeled under 44.8 degrees C and 44.2 degrees C, the reports said.

This capital city experienced the hottest day of the season today when the mercury touched 44.9 degrees C affecting normal life to some extent.

People had to cope with the sweltering heat with the humidity level reaching 91 per cent.

The met office here warned that heat wave conditions was likely to prevail over some parts of Orissa during the next 48 hours.

The sources said that maximum temperature of 43.1 degrees C was recorded at Cuttack.
