The Nepal Telecommunications Corporation (NTC) tower in Nuwakot district, 90 kilometres northwest of Kathmandu, was destroyed in the attack, reports said.
"The repeater tower of NTC at Neupanechaur in Nuwakot district was bombed and destroyed by Maoists on Friday night," the Nepali-language Naya Sadak (New Road) reported.
"A group of about 40 to 50 rebels had threatened two security guards at the tower with their lives... and bombed the repeater tower after the two ran away," the newspaper added.
Government officials in Kathmandu confirmed the incident, but did not give details.
