Dhaka, July 18: Cable operators in Bangladesh today went on an indefinite strike to protest government's decision to impose higher taxes on their operation.
The countries 1500 TV operators threatened to keep operations suspended till their demands including formulation of a national policy for cable operators, withdrawal of value added tax and supplementary tax on pay channels and tax holiday for five years is met. Cable Operators Associations of Bangladesh (CAOB) and the Bangladesh Satellite Cable Network Owner's Association (SCNOA) took the decision to suspend operations at a meeting held here yesterday.
