Srinagar, Feb 21: The coalition partners in Jammu and Kashmir would fight the Lok Sabha elections unitedly to defeat opposition National Conference and BJP in the militancy-hit border state, senior Congress leaders said here today. ''We are going to contest the upcoming elections unitedly from all the six seats and are hopeful that the people will see the work done by the coalition government in the state over the past one year and defeat the opposition National Conference and BJP,'' state unit president Ghulam Nabi Azad and general secretary, in-charge J&K, Ambika Soni told reporters at a joint press conference. Flanked by several other party leaders including Health Minister Lal Singh and Rural Development Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Azad and Soni said the Congress will announce its candidates for the state at the same time as the names of the candidates for other seats in the country are announced. Responding to a query about seat adjustments, they said ''the seat adjustment issue would be discussed in the co-ordination committee (the body overseeing the functioning of the coalition government in the state) meeting. Congress and the PDP are the major partners in the coalition government but every one is aware that Congress has won from all the three regions of the state in the past parliamentary elections,'' they said, adding ''we are going to chalk out a plan and will contest the elections unitedly ... Some are going to fight and others will support them.'' Bureau Report
