Mumbai, May 23: Two persons owing allegiance to underworld don Chhota Rajan have been arrested on charges of extorting Rs five lakh from a city builder at Chunnabhati here, police said. According to police, the builder had been receiving threatening calls from one Balu Dhokre, an aide of Rajan, asking him to pay up Rs 25 lakhs in instalments. Yesterday, the caller once again rang up the builder and asked him to pay up Rs 10 lakhs immediately. After negotiations, the builder agreed to pay Rs five lakh. He was directed to hand over the money to a person who would arrive at a bus stop near Chunnabhati railway station, police sources said. However, the builder later approached the police and registered a complaint, following which a trap was laid and two persons, who had arrived in the area to collect the money on behalf of Dhokre, were nabbed.

The two were wanted in several cases of motor vehicle thefts and murder of gangster Vishwanath Amberkar. Police were on a lookout for the absconding criminals.
