Mumbai, May 23: Two persons owing allegiance to
underworld don Chhota Rajan have been arrested on charges of
extorting Rs five lakh from a city builder at Chunnabhati
here, police said.
According to police, the builder had been receiving
threatening calls from one Balu Dhokre, an aide of Rajan,
asking him to pay up Rs 25 lakhs in instalments.
Yesterday, the caller once again rang up the builder and
asked him to pay up Rs 10 lakhs immediately. After
negotiations, the builder agreed to pay Rs five lakh.
He was directed to hand over the money to a person who
would arrive at a bus stop near Chunnabhati railway station,
police sources said.
However, the builder later approached the police and
registered a complaint, following which a trap was laid and
two persons, who had arrived in the area to collect the money
on behalf of Dhokre, were nabbed.
The two were wanted in several cases of motor vehicle thefts and murder of gangster Vishwanath Amberkar. Police were on a lookout for the absconding criminals.
