Kopargaon, Nov 19: Anti-corruption crusader and noted social worker Anna Hazare today demanded Deputy Chief Minister Chaggan Bhujbal's resignation owning moral responsibility for his role in the multi-crore stamp paper scam. Hazare told reporters at his village Ralegansiddhi in Ahmednagar that Hazare said in view of the serious charges against Bhujbal by opposition parties has raised doubts in the minds of the people and hence he should quit immediately.
It was indeed a very shameful day for the police when a senior police official was arrested for his alleged role in the scam, he said.
Hazare said but for his PIL in the Mumbai High Court, the scam would not have come to light as the government was trying to suppress the case and did not rule out arrest of some MLAs and ministers in the case.
