New Delhi, Oct 12: Putting a spoke in the Congress high command's efforts to resolve the crisis in the party's Kerala unit in the wake of the Ernakulam Lok Sabha by-poll debacle, senior leader K Karunakaran today said the party had no future in the state if the present leadership continued. "We want leadership change in the state, otherwise there is no future for the party in the state," the Kerala strongman, who has been seeking a change of leadership in the state ever since the party lost the Ernakulam seat, told reporters here. Karunakaran warned that if the present set up in Kerala continued, then the Ernakulam experience could be repeated elsewhere in the state.
Though it was not clear whether the former Kerala Chief Minister would be meeting party president Sonia Gandhi, sources did not rule out any such possibility during his visit here. He was also likely to meet AICC general secretary in-charge of the state Ahmed Patel and senior party leader R K Dhawan.
Though apparently Karunakaran is here to attend the meeting of Parliament's standing committee on home affairs, his visit has triggered speculation as it follows a series of meeting his son and state PCC chief K Muraleedharan had with Congress leadership including Sonia Gandhi to apprise them about the reasons behind the party's defeat in the Ernakulam bye-election.
