Kochi, Nov 12: The Kerala High Court today directed the Public Service Commission (PSC) to appoint candidates from the rank list published in 2000 against vacancies reported in the category of LDCs and last grade service in eight districts. The direction was issued by Justice M Ramachandran on a batch of petitions by persons who are included in the rank-list. The petitioners had complained that pursuant to the 1996 notification, the rank list had been published in 2000. Appointments had now come to standstill and vacancies were not being reported by government departments. The court held that government could not be permitted to sit idle on this subject and directed to appoint persons who are in the PSC ranklist. The court clarified that the appointing authority could restrict those who had been appointed, if they felt that it was necessary in the interest of administration.
