Birmingham (England), May 05: His brother Andy may have quit international cricket in controversial circumstances, but Grant Flower kept his family name in the headlines yesterday by hitting a century in Zimbabwe`s opening match of their English tour. Grant Flower smashed an unbeaten 113 as his side made 302 for 7 at Edgbaston on the second day of their three-day game against British universities.
Flower`s century, as well as fifties for Mark Vermeulen and Stuart Carlisle, came on a good day for the tourists after pace bowler Douglas Hondo had taken a career-best 5 for 26 as the students were bowled out for just 146.
A total of fifteen wickets fell on the second day after most of Saturday had been washed away when the students had closed on 92 for 2.
Once John Francis had been dismissed early on, there was no stopping the Zimbabwe bowlers and Hondo in particular as the home side lost eight wickets for just 29 runs in 14 overs.
Flower hit his second fifty off just 40 balls and was unbeaten at the close along with skipper Heath Streak who was on 37. Bureau Report
