Mumbai, Mar 25: Taking an aggressive stance, Shiv Sena-BJP opposition today blasted the DF government in Maharashtra for alleged police atrocities against tribals at Mokhada in thane district forcing an adjournment of the state assembly here. The Opposition's fervent plea that its adjournment notice on the alleged lathicharge and firing by police, in which nine tribals were injured on Sunday, be taken up immediately created pandemonium in the house forcing Speaker Arun Gujrathi to adjourn the house for 15 minutes.
The issue was raised in the Lower House as soon as the members assembled for the day. Opposition leader and former chief minister Narayan Rane moving the adjournment notice urged the chair to set aside the question hour to facilitate discussion on the "unfortunate" incident.
Claiming that the tribals were mercilessly beaten up at Mokhada police station on Sunday, Rane told the House that the police had demanded bribe of Rs 5,000 from the father of one Anjana Pawar who had gone to the police station to register a complaint about his daughter being allegedly beaten up.

However, police refused to lodge the complaint and demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000. Rane said that the woman had to sell her `mangalsutra' to pay the bribe. The police still refused to take down the complaint and instead beat up the woman's father.
