Shillong, Dec 08: National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) would begin a survey to ascertain the employment and unemployment situation in the country following Planning Commission's directives after the Prime Minister's announcement of creating one million job every year. "The Planning Commission wanted a separate survey on the employment and unemployment scenario and it formed a committee including the officials from the PMO in this regard. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation had been asked to go for a survey," director of NSSO's Survey Design and Research Department (SDRD) B K Giri told a training programme of enumerators.

Cautioning the field workers about the "impatience" of the informants in divulging the details regarding their unemployment conditions, Giri asked the enumerators to be ready to spend hours to collect the required information.

The survey of unemployement would help the government ascertain how the Prime Minister's announcement could be fulfilled and whether the measures adopted by the government was on the right track, he said.

The NSSO would begin its 16th round of survey from January 01 next year. Besides the "employment and unemployment" situation, the exercise would also be carried out on "household consumer expenditure" and "morbidity and health care" scenario in the country.

The three-day training programme, inaugurated by deputy director of state's directorate of economics and statistics J Momin, was being attended by field workers from Meghalaya and Tripura, officials said. Bureau Report
