Jind, June 02: Despite the state government constituting a panel to look into the demands of the farmers, the Bharatiya Kisan Union today said it would continue with
its agitation.
Hisar BKU President Vijender Singh Billu told a news agency that the farmers would continue their dharna at Kandela village of Haryana's Jind district, which entered the 14th day, till their demands for waiver of electricity bills and release of arrested BKU workers were met. He said the BKU led by Ghasi Ram Nain would not meet the four-member committee headed by Finance Minister Sampat Singh formed yesterday to resolve farmers' issues.
Billu said they would neither join the Congress dharna nor allow it to join its protest at Kandela or elsewhere.
We have no faith in any political party, including Congress, HVP and the ruling INLD, he said. Earlier, Congress state unit chief Bhupinder Singh Hooda had called upon farmers to join their indefinite dharna outside state secretariat in support of the peasants demands.
Billu said 20 farmers injured in police firing yesterday were recovering at the medical college and hospital, Rohtak. He also disputed the official death toll of six, claiming nine people were killed.
Meanwhile, BKU activists continued to block roads leading to district headquarters here from various places, including Chandigarh and Kaithal, forcing Haryana Roadways to suspend bus services in the affected areas. A report from Rohtak said farmers today commenced an indefinite dharna near village Brahamanwas on the Rohtak-Jind road. Bureau Report
