New Delhi, July 21: BJP today came down heavily on Congress for its attempts to pit "known Khalistanis and notorious extremists" against Akalis in Punjab and said the state could once again witness spurt in terrorist activities. "The manner in which Congress is trying to pit people like Jagjit Singh Chauhan, Ajit Singh and Bhindranwale's nephew against Akalis, Punjab will once again slip into the throes of terrorism," BJP spokesman V K Malhotra told reporters here.

He said that the mistake then prime minister Indira Gandhi committed by propping up extremists, terrorists and Khalistanis in Punjab, was being repeated by chief minister Amrinder Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

"If there is a spurt in terrorism, Singh and Gandhi alone will be responsible," he said.

On the women's reservation bill, he said there was no unity among opposition parties on the issue. "Let the opposition bring an alternative proposal, we will accept it," he added.
