Indonesia links Jakarta, Bali, JI suspicion grows

Jakarta, Aug 06: Police today said a car bomb that
ripped through a Jakarta hotel contained the same cocktail of
explosives as the Bali bombs, as Australia warned new
terrorist attacks in Indonesia could be imminent.
The parallels with the October 12, 2002 attack on the
Island of Bali reinforced suspicions yesterday`s bombing of
the JW Marriott hotel, which left up to 14 dead and 150
injured, was carried out by Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).
Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said the
Jakarta bombing had all the hallmarks of Ji, and he warned of
possible new attacks by the Islamic militant group with links
to Al-Qaeda as early as tomorrow.
"We think there is a real risk that there could be
further attacks, including in central Jakarta," Downer told
reporters, urging all Australians to take travel advisories
against Indonesia seriously.
The stark warning reflected fears about ongoing
trials of Ji militants over the Bali attack, which left 202
people dead including 88 Australians. The first verdict, a
possible death sentence on bomber Amrozi, is due tomorrow.
Singapore`s straits times newspaper quoted an
anonymous Ji operative as saying the Jakarta hotel attack was
a "bloody warning" to Indonesian President Megawati
Sukarnoputri.
"This is a message for her and all our enemies that
if they execute any of our Muslim brothers, we will continue
this campaign of terror in Indonesia and the region," the
operative told. .
